Softball downs Savannah State, 16-0 & 10-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- - The Jacksonville softball team picked up 26 runs on 29 hits to complete a doubleheader sweep over Savannah State, 16-0 & 10-0, on Saturday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex
"I am really pleased with the way our girls approached the games today," said JU head coach Melissa Gentile. "We stayed focused and keep the same intensity throughout both games and this is what we need to get us to the next level."
Senior Kacey Yourous picked up six hits on the day to lead all hitters and Jillian Mirante added five hits in the lead off spot for the Dolphins (8-12). Freshman Beth Glasscock added two doubles and recorded five RBI in game one to help the Dolphins, while Yourous and Mirante each drove in three runs between the games.
Sophomore Shannon Jensen and freshman Amber Janowski both surrendered one hit off the Tigers (0-6) to earn the victory in the circle. Jensen (4-7) tossed a complete game and fanned nine strikeouts to secure the first win, while Janowksi (1-1) earned her first collegiate victory in game two by striking out six batters in five innings of work.
In game one, the Dolphins hit three consecutive doubles to gain a 4-0 advantage in the first inning. Senior Stephanie Farabee brought home Valerie Alter on a one-out single in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-0. The Dolphins scored 10 runs on eight hits in the third inning to put the game out of reach. Mirante scored in the fourth inning off a fielder's choice to cap the Dolphins scoring attack at 16-0.
Yourous drove in two runners on a double in the first inning of game two to help the Dolphins grab an early 4-0 lead. Junior Renee LaCroix and freshman Alexis Novak each had RBI singles to help add to the six-run second inning for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday in doubleheader against Seton Hall at the JU Softball Complex. First pitch is set of 2 p.m.
