CLEARWATER, Fla.- - Senior Kacey Yourous hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to help the Jacksonville University softball team defeat Tennessee Tech, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon in the first day of the USF adidas Invitational. The Dolphins (10-14) fell in their second game of the day to Purdue, 10-0.

"I am really happy with the way our girls battled in the first game," said JU head coach Melissa Gentile. "We stayed focused in the game, which gave us a chance to win in the later innings. I am not happy with the we approached the game against Purdue, but I feel with the last two wins that we are real close to changing this kind of outcome."

With the score tied at one apiece in the sixth inning in the first game, Yourous drove home senior Katie Pestrak on a one-out single. Senior Katie Dobson retired the side in the seventh inning to secure the victory for the Dolphins.

Dobson (5-4) earned the win allowing one run on two hits, while recording four strikeouts in seven innings.

Junior Renee LaCroix also had a RBI single in the second inning to help the Dolphins grab the initial lead.

Jennifer Markham hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to give the Golden Eagles (12-5) their lone run.

In the nightcap, the Boilermakers (10-11) scored five runs in the first two innings en route to a 10-0 victory.
