JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After going 3-1 last weekend, the Jacksonville University softball will embark on a crucial seven-game road trip starting on Thursday.

"Hopefully, we carry last weekend's momentum on this road trip," said JU head coach Melissa Gentile. "Every conference game is very important this late in the season. We need to have another good showing this weekend so we can earn a spot in the conference tournament in May."

In the A-Sun standings, the Dolphins (21-27, 5-5 A-Sun) sits fifth with 10 games left in to play in conference after sweeping Belmont on April 7 and splitting a doubleheader with Lipscomb over the weekend.

JU opens their road trip with a doubleheader on Thursday at 2 p.m. against Gardner-Webb. They finish the weekend against Campbell, who sits third in the conference standings, with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Currently, senior Janine Palumbo leads the team with a career-best .325 batting average and also ranks first with 37 hits. Freshman Beth Glasscock leads the team with 25 RBI. Palumbo and Glasscock each had two doubles in the Dolphins three victories over the weekend.

Senior Katie Dobson and sophomore Shannon Jensen are each tied for the team lead with eight victories in the circle. Jensen ranks first on the staff with 102 strikeouts. Junior Katie Buell will also contribute to the Dolphins pitching staff after getting the win in relief against Belmont and tossing a three-hit shutout vs. Lipscomb on April 9.
