Softball releases 2007 schedule
Jan. 10, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
The Jacksonville University softball team officially got started under the direction of first-year head coach Amanda Lehotak by releasing their 2007 schedule on Wednesday.
Arguably the toughest schedule in program history, the Dolphins will face three Super Regional participants, four Top-25 teams, seven defending conference champions and nine 2006 NCAA Tournament teams.
"We understand that this is an extremely difficult schedule," said Lehotak. "We are excited about the opportunity to play the best and in our minds there is not a better preseason schedule to prepare us for conference play. We will be ready to play once the season starts."
JU opens the season by hosting Minnesota, Southern Illinois and UNG-Greensboro in a tournament at JU Softball Complex on Feb 9. They will also host second tournament with 2005 National Champion Michigan, Notre Dame and Virginia coming to campus in March.
The Dolphins road tournaments include the Sunshine State Classic (Feb. 16-17) with 2006 Big 12 Champion Kansas, South Carolina, Memphis and host Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. They will also compete in the FAU Pepsi Classic against Texas Tech, Illinois and Bethune-Cookman. JU will finish their tournament schedule by traveling to the USF/adidas Spring Break Invitational to play North Carolina, Western Michigan, Oklahoma State and host South Florida.
JU's 18-game Atlantic Sun Conference schedule includes road trips to Belmont, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State and Mercer, while the Dolphins host a doubleheader against crosstown rival North Florida, East Tennessee State, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Stetson at the JU Softball Complex.
JU open the 2007 season on Friday, Feb. 9 at home against Minnesota and Southern Illinois. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
