BOCA RATON, Fla. - Freshman Simone Bruemmer drove in two runs to help the Jacksonville University softball team down Bethune-Cookman, 4-1, on Sunday at the Florida Atlantic Pepsi Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.

Bruemmer finished the day going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to help the Dolphins (3-12) break a seven-game losing skid, while juniors Sara Gordon and Jillian Mirante each recorded an RBI in the game.

Junior Shannon Jensen (1-5) earned the win for the Dolphins in the circle after allowing one unearned run on 10 hits in seven innings.

"It was good to get the win today," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "We are not playing up to our potential right now. Hopefully, we can start doing this because we have a tough week ahead of us."

The Dolphins grabbed an initial 1-0 lead in the second inning when Mirante scored on a sacrifice fly by Gordon. Mirante led off the inning with a single through the left side and took two bases on the next at bat from a sacrifice bunt by Valerie Alter.

A two-out error by the Dolphins in the bottom of the second inning allowed the Wildcats (5-9) to tie the game on a single Christina Trimble.

Bruemmer gave the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage two-out single in the top of the third inning to plate Ashley Mora. Jensen scored after the single on a fielder's choice to cap off the inning.

The Dolphins picked up an insurance run off BCC starter and eventual losing pitcher Lanaya Jenkins in the sixth inning on a one-out RBI single by Bruemmer to make it a 4-1 lead.

Jensen held the Wildcats scoreless over the final two innings to help secure the win.

Jenkins took the loss for the Wildcats by surrendering four runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings.

The Dolphins are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Statesboro, Ga. to face Georgia Southern in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
