Softball kicks off busy week on Tuesday against Elon

March 19, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The campus might be on spring break, but the JU softball is far from relaxing as they host three doubleheaders this week, starting on Tuesday at the JU Softball Complex

On Tuesday, the Dolphins (7-24) host Elon for a daytime doubleheader at 1 p.m. JU will take on Charleston Southern on Thursday at 3 p.m. and finish the week on Saturday against its first-ever Ivy League opponent, Dartmouth, at 1 p.m.

"We are going to use these games to tighten up loose ends," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "We are also going to try and build off the momentum from the win against Campbell because our team jumps back into another hard part of the conference schedule next week."

Last time out, junior Jillian Mirante had a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning to help the Dolphins complete a school-record eight-run comeback to down Campbell, 11-10, in game two of their Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader on March 16.

The Dolphins scored 11 unanswered runs in the final five innings on a season-high 14 hits to pick up the split with the Camels.

Offensively, Mirante paced the JU hitters in game two with three hits, while Jacksonville native Pat Melo had a fourth-inning grand slam to help spark the Dolphins' comeback.

Junior Shannon Jensen (2-9) picked up the win game two after tossing 5.2 innings in relief, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.
