Softball readies for big week at home beginning Tuesday

April 9, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After winning seven out of its last 11 games, the JU softball team will prep for a busy week as they host five games at the friendly confines of the JU Softball Complex beginning Tuesday.

The Dolphins (14-31, 3-5 A-Sun) open the slate with a single game against in-state rival UCF at 5 p.m. On Friday, JU hosts East Tennessee State (20-20, 7-3 A-Sun) for a conference doubleheader at 5 p.m. They finish the week against Gardner-Webb (26-20-1, 4-3-1 A-Sun) in another Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

"It's going to be a long, but fun week," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "We are playing well right now and hopefully can carry it over into the final part of the schedule so we can secure a spot in the conference tournament."

Last time out, freshman Ashley Mora hit her first collegiate home run to help the Dolphins down North Florida, 4-3, in game two of a doubleheader on April 6 at the JU Softball Complex.

Junior Jillian Mirante also had a two-run single to help the cause, while senior Katie Buell tossed two scoreless innings of one-hit relief to secure the win in the circle. Buell only allowed one unearned run in 12 innings of work last week for JU.

Following their split with the Ospreys, the Dolphins sit sixth in the standings for the final berth in the conference tournament.
