Softball plays in USF Under Armour Showcase on Friday
After sweeping Liberty on Monday, the JU softball team will look to keep its good fortune going when they compete in the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. starting Friday.
The Dolphins (11-12) open the showcase with Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. before finishing with Central Michigan at 4 p.m. On Saturday, JU plays Boston and UMass starting 11 a.m., while closing the tournament against the host Bulls on Sunday at Noon.
“We are excited about heading into this weekend,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “There is always tough competition at the USF tournament. We are continuing to face top competition to better prepare us for the conference schedule.”
The Dolphins head to the Central Florida area after downing the Lady Flames, 2-1 & 6-4, in a set of games at the JU Softball Complex.
JU picked up the win in game one when junior Amber Moseley scored the game-winning score on a ground ball hit by sophomore Katie Kelly that Liberty threw away.
In game two, junior Shannon Monahan homered in the sixth inning to break up a 4-4 tie, while junior Ashley Iveson pitched out of a jam in the seventh inning to help the Dolphins sink the Lady Flames.
