Softball faces Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday
After spending last week taking finals, the JU softball team will get back on the diamond on Wednesday for a single game against Bethune Cookman at 4 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.

This is the final regular season game and tune up for the Dolphins (23-29, 7-13 A-Sun) before they compete in the A-Sun Tournament starting May 7 in DeLand, Fla.

“The game against Bethune is a good test and warm up heading into the conference tournament,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “Bethune is a strong team and we need to have solid play to beat them. We are going to treat this game like it is part of the tournament to prepare us mentally and physically for next week.”

In JU’s last set of games, the Dolphins earned a key conference road sweep over East Tennessee State, 2-1 & 6-2, on April 18 to close out their A-Sun schedule.

Sophomore Katie Kelly and freshman Amanda Schmidt had timely RBI hits in game one, while junior Ashley Mora had a three-run homer in the second game to secure the sweep.

With the wins and Lipscomb’s sweep over Stetson on April 24, JU officially claimed its first conference tournament berth since 2005.

The Dolphins will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and play the No. 3 seed on the first day. The No. 3 seed will be determined later this week.
