Sophomore Amanda Schmidt earns A-Sun Offensive “Player of the Week” honors
Sophomore third baseman Amanda Schmidt was named Atlantic Sun Offensive “Player of the Week” after helping the JU softball team to a flawless mark at the JU Tournament on Feb. 13-14.

Schmidt batted .357 (5-15) with seven RBI, five runs scored and two home runs to help lead the Dolphins to four victories. She becomes the first player to earn offensive weekly honors since Beth Glasscock took home the honors in 2006.

“I am happy for Amanda,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “She has worked extremely hard on her hitting and it definitely showed this past weekend. Her demeanor and approach at the plate is exactly what we want our offense to portray.”

On Feb. 13, Schmidt went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Dolphins' 11-7 win against Virginia Tech to close the first day of the tournament. She followed the effort with a pair of two-run homers and scored a team-best four times in the win against UNC Greensboro (2/14).

With the two jacks, she became the first JU player to record multiple home runs during a single game in program history.

Schmidt and the Dolphins return to the diamond on Wednesday when they play nationally ranked Florida in Gainesville, Fla. at 5 p.m.
