Softball looks to bounce back starting Tuesday at UNF
The Dolphins will try to get rid of the bad voodoo they picked up last week when the JU softball team plays at cross-town rival UNF on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for another installment of the Sun Trust River City Rumble.

The Dolphins (22-14, 1-5 A-Sun) matchup against the Ospreys will also count towards the annual Rumble standings. JU leads the race 9-5 and the softball team could help retain the Old Wooden Barrel for another year with at least one victory.

Following the twin bill with the Ospreys, the Dolphins will continue to try to crawl back up the conference standings when they host ETSU (April 9) and USC Upstate (April 10) for consecutive doubleheaders at the JU Softball Complex.

“This is another busy week,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “We have had a tough last two weeks and it doesn’t get any easier against these teams this week. Our goal is to get back to playing our way and controlling the tempo. We had a few days off so we are ready to get going.”

The Dolphins struggled last week as they dropped doubleheaders to Georgia Southern and Lipscomb, while splitting a pair of games against Belmont. It was the first time all season that the Dolphins finished below .500 in scheduled contests for the week.

“I felt we pressed a lot last week,” said Lehotak. “We struggled for the first time this season and tried to do too much to get out of it. We need to get back to our fundamentals and play a little more relaxed, which will help us right the ship.”

The Ospreys (19-20, 5-3) enter the week after having their seven-game winning snapped by Lipscomb in a doubleheader sweep on April 3.

UNF currently owns a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series over JU, including a sweep last season at the JU Softball Complex. The Dolphins lone win was a 4-3 victory in game two during the 2007 season.

The Lady Buccaneers (14-22, 3-5) took a doubleheader from Stetson, but were swept by Florida Gulf Coast in their games last weekend. The Spartans (24-7, 5-3) swept the Eagles before splitting the doubleheader against the Hatters.

The Dolphins have swept the last two doubleheaders against the Lady Buccaneers over the last two seasons. The Spartans have won all four games against the Dolphins since joining the conference in 2008.
