Katie Kelly earns A-Sun Offensive “Player of the Week” honors
Junior Katie Kelly was named Atlantic Sun Conference Offensive “Player of the Week” after batting .400 (8-20) with a double, home run and six RBI to lead the Dolphins to a 5-1 record last week.
Kelly, who earned her first career weekly honor, had two hits in each of the games at UNF on April 6, including the game-winning RBI in the 11th inning of game one for the 2-1 win. In game two against ETSU three days later, she had a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly to help the Dolphins secure an 8-2 win for their first A-Sun sweep. Kelly closed out the week with an RBI single in JU’s 4-3 comeback win in game two against USC Upstate on April 10.
“I am very proud of Katie,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “She has been consistent for us again this year. Her leading off really helps set the pace of the offense and we will need that as we hit the final part of the schedule.”
Kelly is the third Dolphin this season to get the weekly honor, joining sophomores Amanda Schmidt (2/15) and Kayla Shavers (3/15).
The Dolphins host Bethune-Cookman at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for a doubleheader in the home finale at the JU Softball Complex. Fans can watch the game through live video streaming on A-Sun.TV or on live stats by logging onto JUDolphins.com.
