Softball drops two at USF/Under Armour Invitational

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The JU softball team fell, 2-0, against Penn State and 6-3, to South Florida on Saturday in the USF/Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
Sophomore first baseman Amber Moseley delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give the Dolphins (12-14) the 2-1, lead against South Florida, though unfortunately the Dolphins couldn't hold the lead in the seventh.
Moseley's single drove in the senior pinch runner Sara Gordon, who ran for sophomore third baseman who drew a leadoff walk. A single by freshman outfielder Kayla Ouellet moved Moseley to third before freshman outfielder Katarina Engler drove in Moseley with a single of her own to make it 3-1.
The Dolphins were unable to hold the lead as South Florida (14-8) responded with five runs in the top of the seventh including a two run home run by Melissa Rosas.
Sophomore pitcher Ashley Iveson (1-2) took the loss for the Dolphins, giving up five runs (four earned) in six innings while striking out one. Senior pitcher Shannon Jensen gave up one run in her one inning of relief.
The Dolphins' opened the day with a 2-0, loss to Penn State, resuming the game that they began on Friday.
Freshman pitcher Jackie Samuels (5-6) took the loss for the Dolphins, giving up two runs while matching her career high with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The Dolphins' will be in action at 11 a.m. on Sunday against North Carolina State in their final game of the USF/Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
