Softball falls to North Carolina State 7-1 in six innings
March 9, 2008
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The JU softball team fell to North Carolina State 7-1 on Sunday in their final game of the USF/Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
"I was disappointed in today's game because it didn't reflect how good of a tournament we had," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "Yesterday's game against South Florida was very emotional and we didn't rebound from that."
The Dolphins (12-16) played only six innings due to North Carolina State's travel schedule and finished the USF/Under Armour Invitational with a 2-3 record.
North Carolina State (14-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning that included a leadoff homerun by senior shortstop Shanna Smith.
Freshman pitcher Jackie Samuels (5-7) picked up the loss after giving up three runs (two earned)in three innings. Senior pitcher Shannon Jensen gave up four runs (three earned) in three innings of relief work.
The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Purdue at the JU Softball Complex.
