Softball to face Campbell on Friday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Dolphins make the long trip to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on Campbell University in a crucial Atlantic Sun Conference matchup on Friday.

The Dolphins opened last week with an 8-3 win over Bethune-Cookman, before being swept by USC Upstate and splitting a series with Gardner-Webb.

Campbell has a lot of power in their lineup and have out homered their opponents, 49-13. Senior third baseman Courtney Quinn leads the team with 16 long balls, while sophomore catcher Amanda Littlejohn is second with 10. Littlejohn leads the team with 56 RBI.

Freshman outfielder Katie Hinton leads the team in average (.378), while Littlejohn (.372) and Quinn (.353) are second and third.

Sophomore Brittany Stanley (16-7) and freshman Lauren Stephan (13-11) have been dominating in the circle this season, with both pitchers having an ERA under 2.50.


With six games remaining in their 2008 A-Sun schedule, the Dolphins currently occupy the sixth and final seed for the A-Sun tournament.

The Dolphins currently have five conference victories, while Gardner-Webb and Belmont have three each, though the Dolphins have played four more conference games than Gardner-Webb and two more than Belmont.

Friday's opponent Campbell currently occupies the fifth seed, but with only four wins.

After the Campbell series, the Dolphins will travel to Stetson and first-place Florida Gulf Coast.

Senior Night

On Tuesday April 15, the Dolphins will celebrate senior night at the JU Softball Complex during the doubleheader against Florida A&M.

Infielder Sara Gordon, pitcher Shannon Jensen, designated player Pat Melo and right fielder Jillian Mirante will be honored before the game for their contributions to the JU Softball program.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
