Sigrest and Kline receive second team NFCA all-southeast region honors
The honors continue to come in for the JU softball team as junior Sarah Sigrest and sophomore Olivia Kline each earned Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) second team All-Southeast region accolades on Thursday afternoon.

Sigrest and Kline become the second Dolphins to earn the honor after Katie Kelly received first team accolades in 2009.

“I’m happy that Sarah and Olivia earned this honor,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “They have both had a great year. Sarah has been stellar in the circle, while Olivia’s bat is one of the keys to our offense. It’s nice to see them get rewarded for their work on the diamond.”

Sigrest has posted career highs in wins (26), strikeouts (200), shutouts (10) and ERA (1.01) in the circle. Her ERA is fifth nationally, while ranking 14th in shutouts. She struck five or more batters 20 times, including a career-best 12 against Florida A&M (4/13).

In A-Sun play, Sigrest finished with a 12-1 record, a 0.78 ERA and 76 strikeouts to earn “Pitcher of the Year” honors. Since her last lost on April 8th, the Daphne, Ala. native is 12-0 with a 0.56 ERA, including three wins at the A-Sun Tournament to earn MVP accolades.

Not to be outdone, Kline has had a quality season in the circle as well, posting a 15-6 record with a 1.50 ERA (34th nationally), 84 strikeouts in 28 appearances. Kline is even better at the plate by recording second on the team with a .333 average to go along with five doubles, six home runs and 26 RBI.

One of her best days of the year came against Campbell (4/16) when she pitched nine innings in the circle before hitting a walk-off homer on the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the frame.

Sigrest, Kline and the rest of the Dolphins play the defending national champion UCLA tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the Gainesville regional in the NCAA Tournament. Fans can watch the game live on or follow along with the other live links at
