While fall sports are taking center stage getting their seasons under way, spring sports aren’t sitting idly by.

The JU softball team started individual drills this week and head coach Ali Higgs and assistant Laura Taylor like what they’ve seen so far at the Softball Complex.

“The returners are picking up where they left off,’’ Higgs said. “The freshmen are fitting in well with the returners and are working to make an immediate impact. They will provide good competition as we go along.’’

The softball team was 44-16 last season and found itself in the NCAA tournament.

Taylor has been gauging the hitters this week.

“They have a solid foundation to work with and we are working on the finer points of their swings,’’ she said.
