The NCAA tournament softball team got its rewards Saturday with a ring ceremony during halftime of the Dolphins’ football win against Charleston Southern.

Coach Ali Higgs, an assistant coach last season who has been elevated to head coach, led the softball team’s presence which honored the effort of a 44-16 season, an Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and a berth in the NCAA tournament.

They won their final 15 games and 27 of their last 30 before the tournament then beat Bethune-Cookman in the tournament before bowing out to UCLA.

The Dolphins will return 12 players from the championship team next season including seven who won All Conference honors and led by Pitcher of the Year Sarah Sigrest.

The Dolphins begin their short fall season Sept. 24 at home against Florida State College.
