CHICAGO, Ill.—JU Softball signee Jessica Walker has been named the 2013 Gatorade Oklahoma Softball Player of the Year.
Walker, a pitcher out of Grove High School in Grove, Oklahoma, received the prestigious honor after leading her team to the 5A state championship. She posted a 25-3 record with a 0.59 ERA and 278 strikeouts in 178 innings of work. As a batter she hit .388 with three home runs and 21 RBI.
Not only did Walker dominate on the diamond, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. In addition she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has volunteered locally with the Special Olympics and Children’s Hospital.
As winner of the award, Walker is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award announced later in June.
