MIAMI, Fla. -- Jacksonville finished 1-for-2 on the second day of the Felsberg Memorial Tournament on Saturday, besting Maryland 6-2 before being shutout 5-0 by DePaul. The Fins (2-2) will conclude tournament play on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. against Maryland.

Sophomore Cecile Gomez (1-0) earned her first win of the season against Maryland, striking out two in 4.2 innings, before sophomore Victoria Brown (1-0) fanned four and allowed just two hits in 2.1 innings of relief.

Against Maryland, senior Codi Kelly led the Fins with a pair of RBI and finished 2-for-4, matching junior Lexie Ballard, who earned one RBI. As a team, the Fins recorded six runs on nine hits, compared to Maryland's two runs on nine hits.

In the top of the third, the Dolphins tallied the first run on Kelly’s RBI single up the middle to score Brown from second.

Then in the fifth, Jacksonville's scoring exploded to plate five runs on two hits.

Ballard hit an RBI single to left, scoring freshman Charlie Bradshaw for a 2-0 score. Junior Jackie DiPiazza then walked for an RBI, scoring Gomez against Maryland freshman pitcher Hannah Dewe (4.1 IP, 9H, 6R, 6ER) before Terrapin junior pitcher Jaymi Bautista-Geiger came in for relief. But against Bautista-Geiger, sophomore Sable Lee walked for an RBI to plate freshman Brooke Smith, Brown walked for an RBI to score Ballard, and Kelly advanced to first on an RBI fielder’s choice to score DiPiazza. Jacksonville held a 6-0 advantage to end the top of the fifth.

Maryland responded in the bottom with its only two runs of the game. Shannon Bustillos hit an RBI double to center to plate Erin Pronobis, followed shortly by Kylie Datil’s RBI single to right to plate Bustillos.

Against DePaul (2-2), Mary Connolly put the Blue Demons on the board to open the contest when Kirsten Verdun reached on a Jacksonville error. DePaul followed with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh.

Brittany Boesel doubled to left, stole second, and scored when Jacksonville bobbled Morgan Maize’s double to right for an error. In the fifth, Verdun doubled to right center for an RBI that plated Connolly. Then, pinch runner Ali Lenti scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 game.

Jacksonville had promising scoring opportunities in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, but was unable to capitalize. Lee stood on third with two outs before a strikeout to end the fifth, and in the sixth, after Brown singled up the middle and Kelly singled to short stop to put Brown in scoring position and break-up Verdun's no-hitter, an out ended the inning.

Freshman Jessi Walker  entered in relief for sophomore Taylor Rossman [6.0 IP, 9H, 4R, 2SO] in the top of the seventh. Walker [1.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 1SO] walked Connolly and fanned Verdun before Kali Gardner smacked an RBI double to left center for a 5-0 score to end the inning.
