JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University (11-11, 0-0 ASUN) kicks off an eight-game road trip with a mid-week matchup against #11 Florida State University (14-7, 3-3 ACC). The Dolphins led through seven innings in the last game against the Seminoles, but a three-run eighth helped Florida State escape John Sessions Stadium with a 6-5 win on February 28.

Jacksonville struggled a bit in the first two games of the UCF series, but got the last laugh against the Knights with a 7-1 victory on Sunday in Casey Kulina's first win of the year and four RBIs from Seth DeWitt.

Scouting the Opponent

After starting the season 13-3 and earning the top spot in most national polls, Florida State has stumbled a bit. The Seminoles have lost four of the last five games, including a 2-1 series loss to Virginia Tech (13-9, 3-3 ACC). Florida State has been outscored 38-23 during that span. Still, Florida State remains a dangerously good team and deserving of a Top 25 ranking. The Seminoles lead the country in walks this season (152), are seventh in hit-by-pitch (34), seventh in runs scored (174), sixth in sac flies (14), and 15th in scoring (8.3 runs per game). The Noles' pitching is also dominant, ranking in the Top 25 in shutouts, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and strikeouts per nine innings. Quincy Nieporte leads the nation in RBI (34) and Andrew Karp's strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.33) is 15th in the NCAA.

On Deck

The Dolphins continue their eight-game road trip with a weekend series at West Virginia (10-8, 2-1 Big 12) on March 24-26, at UCF (17-4, 0-0 AAC) on March 28, and at #17 Florida Gulf Coast (18-3, 0-0 ASUN) on March 31-April 2. The Dolphins return home for a mid-week against Bethune-Cookman on April 5, and then hit the road for another three-game series at NJIT (3-14, 0-0 ASUN) April 7-9.
