Dolphins Fall at #6/5 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball gave up a big first inning and fell 6-2 to Florida State at Dick Howser Stadium on Wednesday.

Angel Camacho and Jacob Southern each homered for the Dolphins (19-11) against the #6/5 Seminoles (23-7).

Florida State started the night big, when the second batter of the night Jackson Lueck doubled to right, and came home to score on a single from Rhett Aplin. Cal Raleigh then homered to right, setting up a walk and another homer, this time to right center by Reese Albert, gave FSU a 5-0 advantage after one.

The Seminoles opened up the second with another long ball to make it 6-0, but Greg Shannahan (0-2) settled down after that, striking out five over 3.2 in the start.

Matt Meyer, Andrew Ciocia and Nathan Disch combined to hold the Seminoles scoreless over the final six innings, striking out three more to conclude the night on the mound.

The solo home runs by Camacho and Southern came in the sixth and the seventh innings, for Camacho it was his first of the year, for Southern his team-high sixth.

Connor Stephens finished the night with two hits, his third multi-hit game of the year. Ruben Someillan, with a single in the ninth, extended his 23-game reach-base streak.

Jacksonville heads up to Nashville this weekend to face off against Lipscomb in ASUN Conference play. The Bisons are tied with JU at the top of the league standings after taking two of three against NJIT at home last weekend.
