Green and Gold World Series Set For This Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The 2018 fall season wraps this weekend for Jacksonville University baseball. The Green and Gold World Series is scheduled to run Friday through Sunday.

The split-squad scrimmage games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, with Trent Palmer starting for Green and Tyler Santana for Gold, 4 p.m. Saturday, with AJ Jones taking the ball for Green and Austin Temple for Gold and noon on Sunday, when the starters will be announced prior to gametime. Fans are encouraged to attend and see the Dolphins in action for the final time before the season starts up in February.

"This is the culmination of fall, a weekend to highlight what these guys have accomplished and how much they've grown over the last few weeks," said Head Coach Chris Hayes. "Ultimately, the most important thing is that they get a chance to compete."

Two captains were selected based off of seniority in the program. Senior infielder Angel Camacho and senior catcher Reagan Wright drafted their respective sides and have spent the week going through all of what it takes to not only play, but manage as well.

"It's a peek behind the curtain," said Hayes. "The captains and mangers tend to become more cerebral with everything as the week goes on.

"The rest of the players enjoy the banter and the opportunity to compete against their brothers."

The friendly competition heats up throughout the week leading up to the World Series, and hits a fever pitch come Sunday, especially if the series is tied at one. Coach Hayes does not feel that the recent rule changes that have allowed teams such as JU to play outside competition in the fall has had any impact on this weekend's series.

"We're fortunate and grateful to have the chance to play outside competition during the fall now, but those are like spring training games," said Hayes. "This is every bit a conference weekend series-type setting.

"Guys are enthusiastic and focused for this weekend."

While current renovations to John Sessions Stadium's seating have not yet been completed, there will be some seating provided. However, fans are also encouraged to bring their own seating for comfort purposes if they so choose.
