JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Its 2017 season has ended, All-PFL Academic and All-Conference awards have been announced, and yet, honors continue to roll in for the odds–defying Jacksonville University football team.
As the second student-athlete from the program to be named Pepsi Co. Student-Athlete of the Month, redshirt-junior linebacker Thomas Oporto earned the award for his stellar performance in the month of November.
The Dolphins were expected to finish their latest campaign ranked fifth in the Pioneer Football League, and instead placed third.
Oporto's defensive efforts were certainly helpful in the push.
Jacksonville finished November with a 2-1 record, highlighted by victories over Valparaiso and Stetson, and Oporto led the team in tackles in each of the three games.
He recorded a career-high 13 tackles against Valpo, en route to concluding the month with the following stat line: 29 tackles (only two were assisted) with one pass breakup and one forced fumble.
Oporto was an honorable mention on the PFL all-conference list.
