SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Jacksonville University football had four members honored by the Pioneer Football League as Academic All-PFL performers Wednesday.
Redshirt-senior wide receiver Nic Duch and redshirt-sophomore offensive lineman Dane Cordell both made the First Team, while junior offensive lineman Chris Tremblay and redshirt-junior linebacker Michael Perera were named second team selections.
Duch, a two-time Academic All-PFL team member, posted a 3.89 GPA in finance and moved up from the second team to the first team as an all-academic performer this year. The Jacksonville, Fla. native was a key member of the Jacksonville offense for the last several seasons, blocking on the edge for the third-ranked rushing attack in the Football Championship Subdivision this season. A converted quarterback, Duch finished his JU career 3-3 all-time passing, including a touchdown pass this season at San Diego.
Cordell, named an Honorable Mention All-PFL performer yesterday, currently has a 3.88 GPA in accounting. The Plano, Tex. native took over as the starting center this season and was critical in paving the way for nine 100-yard and three 200-yard rushers this season. It is Cordell's first selection to the all-academic team.
His teammate on the offensive line, Tremblay, excelled in the classroom en route to a 3.53 GPA in his engineering dual degree track, while also performing at a high level on the field. He anchored the left tackle position for a line that allowed only 11 sacks all year, tied for third best in the PFL. It is also his first all-academic recognition.
Perera is another two-time all-academic selection, earning second team honors last year as well. The Miami, Fla. native has been a staple on special teams for JU the last two seasons, and logged three tackles in the Dolphins' resounding season opening win over St. Augustine's. He is on pace to graduate with a degree in finance, and currently has a 3.82 GPA.
