Dolphins Close Holiday Homestand with Webber International

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Wrapping up their two-game home stand before the Thanksgiving break, Jacksonville University will host Webber International Monday night in Historic Swisher Gym. This marks the first meeting between the two teams; JU is 146-108 in first time matchups, including a 3-1 mark last year.

Monday's game can seen on ESPN3 and be heard exclusively on 1010 XL, the flagship sports radio station of Northeast Florida.

THE LAST TIME OUT - NC A&T

Making his first appearance in a Jacksonville University uniform, Jace Hogan scored 24 points and snagged 11 boards in 37 minutes Friday night. The junior transfer from the United States Naval Academy also had two assists, two blocks, and a steal. But it wasn't enough as the Dolphins fell to NC A&T 90-82 in Swisher Gym.

This is the first of four first-time matchups in the 2017-18 season; the Dolphins are 146-108 all-time in those games, including a 3-1 mark last year. Webber is coached by Allan Corbin, a walk-on member of the West Virginia teams that went to the Elite 8 and Sweet 16 under then head coach John Beilein, now the head coach of the Dolphins' Dec. 30 opponent, the University of Michigan. Corbin has coached his team to a 2-2 record this year and an impressive showing in a 98-89 loss in an exhibition game at Stetson. That game counted as an official game for the Hatters, but as an NAIA school the stats and record doesn't apply for Webber. The Warriors are averaging 85.3 ppg while allowing 82.0, shooting 41.4 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three.

Players to watch include:

  • #23 - Senior guard Osandai Vaughn - Leads the team in scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounds (8.7 rpg)
  • #32 - 6'10" Senior center Johnathan Childs - Second on the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounds (7.7 rpg), and has four blocks on the year

UP NEXT - WRIGHT STATE TOURNAMENT

In an exciting celebration of Thanksgiving, JU will compete with Fairfield (Friday, Nov. 24), Wright State (Saturday, Nov. 25), and Gardner-Webb (Sunday, Nov. 26) at the Wright State Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. Dolphin fans can catch all the action from all three games on 1010 XL and on ESPN3. A preview of the tournament can be found on JUDolphins.com on Tuesday, Nov. 21, with detailed inspections of each team coming the day before each game.
