CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Jacksonville University men's basketball team (3-5) fell victim to some hot shooting on Saturday afternoon, falling to Western Carolina (2-5), 77-65, despite a trio of double-digit efforts.
JD Notae led the Dolphin scoring once again with 19 points in the game while Jace Hogan followed closly behind with 15 to go with eight boards. DeAnthony McCallum bagged double figures off the bench, going for 11 on 2-5 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line. Jalyn Hinton scored seven points, pulled down four rebounds, handed out a team-leading four assists and blocks two shots in another stat-stuffing effort.
Western Carolina shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent from long to create the difference in this one. JU managed just 37.3 percent from the floor and were still in the game to the end, cutting the deficit to just six with 8:05 to play despite trailing by as many as 15 in the second half. But the Dolphins were unable to get over the hump as WCU was able to keep JU at an arms-length despite getting outscored in the second half.
The team now looks forward to an extended break after playing five games in eight days and eight games in 18 days to start the season. Believe it or, the Dolphins are no less than a quarter of the way through the 2018-19 season. Next up will be a date with South Carolina State inside Swisher Gymnasium on Dec. 1.
