Azeez Ali joins the Jacksonville University men’s basketball staff for the 2014-15 season after serving as an assistant to Tony Jasick for three seasons at IPFW.
As an assistant at IPFW, Ali played a crucial role in helping turn around the fortunes of the Mastodons. After spending the first season as an assistant to Dane Fife, Ali spent his final three years there under Jasick. Following an 11-win season in 2011-12, IPFW jumped to 16-16 in 2012-13 and finally to 25-11 in 2013-14. Last year’s IPFW team also advanced to the postseason for the first time in the program’s Division I history and defeated Akron in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
Before joining the coaching staff of IPFW, Ali spent two seasons at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As the Director of Basketball Operations under Head Coach John Shulman, Ali helped lead the Mocs to the 2009 Southern Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Ali’s coaching career began at Cecil Community College in Maryland, where the Seahawks compiled a 66-5 record in his two years with the program and won the 2006 NJCAA Division II National Championship.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Ali graduated from Maryland-Eastern Shore in 2004 with a degree in Business Administration. He added a Master’s degree in Special Education from Chattanooga in 2009.
