PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. –Capping its first round score off with a combined six-over par the last four holes, the Jacksonville University men's golf team finds itself in ninth place of the 15-team leaderboard. Second round action from the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club returns to the tee box with a 8:30 staggered hole tee off.
Colin Monagle led the Dolphin charge in the first round, carding an eagle-3 on the par five, 536-yard Hole No. 8, en route to a one-over par on the seniors back-nine. He finished the day in a tie for 30th, along with fellow seniors Connor Salanger and Brett McKinnon.
Salanger fired an even-par front-nine and was five-over on the back, while McKinnon carded a five-over par round total.
Competing with Jacksonville are No. 27 North Florida, No. 17 Alabama, UAB, No. 16 UCLA, UCF, Coastal Carolina, Duke, No. 32 East Carolina, Furman, No. 39 Louisville, North Texas, No. 24 Oklahoma State, Tennessee and No. 7 Texas.
Tournament host North Florida leads the field with an eight-over par round in it leads Oklahoma St. by a stroke. Tom Lovelady of Alabama leads the 87 student-athlete leaderboard with a two-under par score.
Competing as an individual, senior Nick Torrance tied Salanger for lowest front-nine score of even-par after two birdies and had two pars on the back with seven bogeys, for a seven-over par first round. Junior Franck Medale also sits at seven-over par, while freshman Raul Pereda turned in a nine-over par scorecard.
Second-round of the John Hayt Intercollegiate will initialize Saturday, with the final round concluding 54-holes of the stroke-play event on Sunday.
