PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Paced by senior Colin Monagle's even-par round, the Jacksonville University men's golf team improved to a tied for eighth place result. The Dolphins shaved 11-strokes off their first round scored, moving up two spots on the 15-team leaderboard. Action from the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club concludes tomorrow with the final 18-holes commencing at 7:30 in the John Hayt Intercollegiate.
Tied for 13th, Monagle carded his best score in two tournaments with an even-par round. The senior was nearly flawless, combatting his three bogeys with three birdies, en route to a 17-spot jump among the 87 player leaderboard.
Senior Brett McKinnon improved one shot in the second-round, with a four-over par 76. He is in a tie for 40th after carding three birdies in the round.
Most improved of the day belongs to freshman Raul Pereda after launching a one-over par taking his scorecard down nine-strokes. He moved up 25-spots to top-50 in the effort, carding a birdie and two bogeys for a one-over par second round score.
Senior Nick Torrance carded a four-over par as well and is 11-over for the tournament, while senior Connor Salanger is 20-over for the two-rounds and junior Franck Medale improved on a six-over par day.
Beau Hoser is the tournaments leader with the days best round of six-under par for a one-shot lead over North Florida's Dillon Woods. Texas leads the 15-team field with a five-over par combined score, three shots ahead of tournament host North Florida.
Final round action initiates tomorrow at 7:30 where the final 18-holes will be played for the John Hayt Tournament crown.
