MYRTLE BEACH, Fla. – Led by a one-under par performance by senior Brett McKinnon, the Jacksonville University men's golf team concluded 36-holes of the General Hackler Championship today from Myrtle Beach S.C. in 14th. Action concludes from TPC Myrtle Beach at the par 72, 7,233-yard Dunes Club course tomorrow with the squad set to go at 9 a.m. for the final 18-holes.
McKinnon trails the tournament leader Jacob McBride (NC State) by five-strokes after carding a three-under par in the first round, and two-over par in the second. The Nova Scotia native carded a total of seven birdies in the two-rounds with one double-bogey
Senior Connor Salanger was strong in the first carding a six-over par 78 with eight-straight pars on the back-nine. He carded an early double-par in the second-round, but showed good composure to rally the round, finishing with birdie-bogey-par-par, for an 82.
Colin Monagle carded back-to-back nine-over par 81s, but finished the second-round with a three-over par 39, carrying some momentum into day two.
North Carolina State leads the overall leaderboard with a combined 571, while North Florida is just three-combined strokes back. Iowa State, Kent State and North Texas round out the top-five in scoring.
Jacksonville will tee off at 9 a.m. Tuesday moring with Winthrop and Charleston. McKinnon is set to start at hole-14 with Zach Seabolt and R.J. Keur. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com
The 15-team field includes: North Florida, East Tennessee State, North Carolina State, Charlotte, East Carolina, Iowa State, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, North Texas, Kent State, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee State and USC Upstate.
