GREENVILLE, S.C. – Paced by a five-under par first round by senior Nick Torrance, the Jacksonville University men's golf team is two shots back of tournament leader USC Aiken at the Furman Intercollegiate on Friday. Second-round slate is set to commence from the par-72, 6,994 Furman University Golf Course at 8 a.m.
In 32 rounds, the five-under par performance by veteran Torrance is a career-best. He carded six-birdies and an eagle-3 on the par 5, 512 yard hole. USC Aikens' Brandon Robinson-Thompson mimicked the five-under sitting atop the 114 student-athlete leaderboard along with Torrance.
The team combined two-under par sets the Dolphins in second place, as Franck Medale's one-under par places the junior inside the top-ten at a tie for ninth. Senior Colin Monagle is in a tie for 30th after firing a one-over par, while Raul Pereda is in a tie for 51st with a three-over par afternoon. Brett McKinnon was seven-over on the afternoon.
Action continues tomorrow beginning with an 8 a.m. start while the tournament concludes on Sunday, March 29.
