PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The men's golf teams of the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University are neck-and-neck after the first day of the John Hayt Intercollegiate, hosted by the Ospreys at the Sawgrass Country Club.
Raul Pereda is currently tied for third on the individual leaderboard with a score of 71 (one-under par). Sam Uhland had one of his best rounds of the season, carding an even-par 72 to tie for fifth. Franck Medale is tied for 26th with a 76 (four-over par), Ryan Jahn is tied for 62nd with an 80 (eight-over par), and David Wicks is tied for 72nd with an 81 (nine-over par).
Nationally-ranked North Florida (37th) is in first place with a total of 293 (five-over par). Jacksonville is just behind the Ospreys with a total of 299 (11-over par). Oklahoma State (13th-nationally) is a stroke behind the Dolphins at 300 (12-over par), Louisville (47th-nationally) is fourth with 301 (13-over par), and North Texas is fifth with 302 (14-over par). Only ten strokes separate first and sixth place.
The Dolphins are ahead of seven nationally-ranked teams currently, including Oklahoma State, Louisville, UCLA (23rd-nationally), Liberty (48th-nationally), Tennessee (50th-nationally), UAB (38th-nationally), and East Carolina (43rd-nationally).
Pereda had 11 pars and four birdies in the first round, Uhland had 13 pars and three birdies, Medale had 12 pars and two birdies, Jahn had 11 pars, and Wicks had 14 pars.
Jahn will tee off first for JU at 10:30 a.m., followed by Uhland (10:39 a.m.), Pereda (10:48 a.m.), Wicks (10:57 a.m.), and Medale (11:06 a.m.). The weather forecast for tomorrow calls for sunny skies a high of 63 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday.
