PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Raul Pereda came through in a big way for the men's golf team of Jacksonville University on Sunday, leading the Dolphins to a third-place finish in the 2016 John Hayt Intercollegiate.
Pereda had a 68 in the final round to total 213 (71+74+68). The sophomore from Cordoba, Mexico finished third out of 87 golfers. David Wicks tied for 19th with 221 (81+68+72), Sam Uhland had one of his best tournaments as a Dolphin, carding 222 (72+76+74) to tie for 22nd. Franck Medale scored 74 in the final round, totaling 226 (76+76+74) to tie for 36th. Ryan Jahn tied for 72nd with 235 (80+78+77).
13th-ranked Oklahoma State shot a final round of 277 (1 stroke shy of the tournament record) to win the tournament. The Cowboys totaled 858 (300+281+277) through three days. 37th-ranked and tournament host North Florida finished second with an 867 (293+292+282), and Jacksonville finished third with 881 (299+294+288). 50th-ranked Tennessee dropped to fourth place in the final day of the tournament with a score of 883 (305+288+290), and 43rd-ranked East Carolina rounded out the top five with a score of 889 (310+289+290).
The Dolphins defeated six nationally-ranked teams including Tennessee (50), East Carolina (43), UAB (38), Louisville (47), UCLA (23), and Liberty (48).
Wicks had 40 pars and seven birdies, Medale had 34 pars and six birdies, Uhland had 32 pars and 11 birdies, Jahn had 32 pars and three birdies, and Pereda had 30 pars, 11 birdies, and 1 eagle.
