BRASELTON, Ga. – David Wicks finished two-under-par Sunday in the first round of the 2016 Atlantic Sun conference championship, leading the Jacksonville University men's golf team to a fourth-place tie through the first day of the 54-hole tournament at Chateau Elan.
Wicks is tied with three other golfers for second place after carding 70 in the first round. Sam Uhland is three strokes behind Wicks after scoring 73 on Sunday, and is tied for 12th place. In 16th Raul Pereda finished two-over-par with a score of 74, Franck Medale is tied for 23rd with 77, and Ryan Jahn is in 35th after carding an 87.
Kennesaw State leads the field with a team total of 283, five-under-par. Lipscomb University is six strokes behind at 289, and North Florida is in third with 290. Jacksonville and Florida Gulf Coast are tied for fourth with 294 apiece. USC Upstate is sixth at 301, and Stetson is seventh with 308.
The Dolphins had 54 holes of par or better and hit 13 birdies. Wicks led the team with 14 holes of par or better and three birdies. Uhland impressed on Par 5 holes, averaging a 4.25.
Jahn will tee off first for JU at 9:15 a.m. Monday, and will be followed by Medale at 9:24 a.m., Pereda at 9:33 a.m., Uhland at 9:42 a.m., and Wicks at 9:51 a.m.
The weather forecast for Monday's tee times calls for temperatures around 57 degrees and clear skies overhead, and temperatures are expected to get all the way up to 80 degrees by 3 p.m.
