TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Despite getting off to a good start, neither member of the Jacksonville University men's golf team is in the lead in the individual competition at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, held at the Ol' Colony Golf Course Monday, May 16-Wednesday, May 18.
David Wicks is currently tied for 26th place overall and is sixth on the individual leaderboard in the first round of competition after carding a 74. The Atlantic Sun Conference Individual Champion was even-par through the first eight holes, bogeyed on the ninth hole, birdied on the 10th hole to get back to par, then remained at par until the 16th and 17th hole, both of which he bogeyed. The junior from Bexhill, England, finished two-over-par.
Franck Medale is tied for 42nd overall and is eighth on the individual leaderboard after scoring 76 in the first round. The senior from Valence d'Agen, France, carded par on the first hole, birdied the second hole to drop to one-under-par, and then stayed one-under until the 10th hole and 11th hole, both of which he bogeyed. Medale also bogeyed the 13th hole and double bogeyed the 15th to finish four-over-par.
The top five teams and the top individual not associated with one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be played on May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. If there is a tie for the final advancing spot, a playoff will be utilized.
Medale will tee off at 10:12 a.m. on the 10th hole Tuesday, followed by Wicks at 10:34 a.m.
The weather forecast for Tuesday's tee times calls for temperatures around 74 degrees and clear skies overhead, and temperatures are expected to get all the way up to 84 degrees by 3 p.m. with the skies becoming mostly cloudy as the day progresses.
