PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – After an exciting conclusion to the match play against crosstown rival University of North Florida last Monday, the Jacksonville University men's golf team returns to action Monday in the 9th Annual Sea Best Invitational, hosted by the Dolphins at TPC Sawgrass.
The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Dye's Valley Course. The 6,977-yard, par-71 course, designed by Pete Dye, Bobby Weed, and player consultant Jerry Pate, is the sister track to the world-famous THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. Opened in 1987, Dye's Valley hosted the 2014 & 2015 Web.com Tour Championship and the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open from 2010-2013. The course ranked 14th on Golfweek's 2015 ranking of "Best Courses You Can Play" in Florida.
The Sea Best Invitational will begin Monday at 8 a.m. ET with a shotgun start, with the second round immediately following the conclusion of the first. The final round will start Tuesday at 8 a.m., and the award ceremony will take place Tuesday afternoon following its conclusion. Live stats are available for all three rounds of tournament play on GolfStat.
Of the 15 teams competing in the event, seven rank in the Top 45, including #2 Florida (the winner of the 2016 Sea Best Invitational), #13 North Carolina, #27 Florida State, #30 North Florida, #31 Arkansas, #32 Liberty, and #43 Jacksonville. The other teams competing include Tennessee, who won the event in 2013 when it was played on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, Lipscomb, East Carolina, Campbell, SMU, Charleston Southern, Winthrop, and USC Upstate.
Jacksonville's five-man team at the Sea Best will consist of David Wicks, Elliott Fullalove, Raul Pereda, Ryan Jahn, and Sam Uhland. In addition, Zachary Alligood will compete as an individual. Last season the Dolphins tied for 12th with Jacksonville State despite carding the 13th-best 36-hole total (584) in the history of the event. Seven of the Top Eight 54-hole totals were set in last year's event, including Florida's 26-under-par 826 to win the team title. Florida's Sam Horsfield won the individual title with a 10-under-par 203, a new tournament record.
Sunny skies are expected at tee time Monday morning with temperatures around 56 degrees. A slight chance of showers is forecasted in the afternoon, but it should still be mostly sunny the entire day with a high around 67 degrees.
