JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Following a brilliant performance at last week's SunTrust Gator Invitational where Jacksonville University shot the lowest single-round score of the tournament to finish tied for second, the Dolphins head toward the beach for the 2017 John Hayt Invitational, hosted by the University of North Florida.
The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. In May of 2013, the club, in partnership with architect Robert Walker, began a Master Golf Renovation project that updated the east nine and west nine and was completed in the fall of 2015.
Jacksonville will tee off all three days at 10:00 am, beginning with Sam Uhland, followed by Elliott Fullalove, Ryan Jahn, Raul Pereda, and David Wicks teeing off at nine-minute intervals thereafter. Wicks will be the final Dolphin to tee off at 10:36 am. Last season the Dolphins finished third with an 881 (299+294+288).
Of the 15 teams competing in the event, only three are not ranked in the Top 100 in NCAA GolfStat rankings. The #31 Dolphins will face #33 Liberty, #36 North Florida, #45 UCLA, #49 UCF, #62 Tennessee, #65 North Texas, #75 Louisville, #80 Campbell, #85 UAB, #92 East Carolina, #98 Coast Carolina, along with Furman, Army, and Navy.
Beautiful weather is in the forecast for the tournament, with a high of 74 to start the tournament on Friday, followed by warmer temperatures of 79 and partly cloudy skies on Saturday. The final day will be a little cooler, with a high of 64 expected.
