JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Pacing Jacksonville University's men's golf team to a fifth place finish after 18 holes, David Wicks finished five-under-par 67 Friday in the first round of the Seminole Intercollegiate.
The senior from Bexhill, England, finished the first round with a par or better finish on every hole, including five birdies. He's tied for fourth and just one stroke behind first place.
Sam Uhland also had an incredible round Friday, carding 70 with 17 holes of par or better, including three birdies. Ryan Jahn and Elliott Fullalove both carded even-par 72, and Raul Pereda had 75. Every Dolphin had at least 10 holes of par or better and at least three birdies.
Penn State currently leads the team standings with 273 in the first round. Tournament host and #30 Florida State is second at 274, #25 Georgia Tech is third at 276, West Virginia is fourth at 277, and #31 Jacksonville is fifth at 281.
The Dolphins' day will start at 9:25 a.m. with Pereda teeing off at Hole 1. He'll be followed by Fullalove, Jahn, Uhland, and Wicks in 11 minute intervals.
Weather at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla., will include mostly sunny skies for most of the day and temperatures rising from 56 degrees at 9:00 a.m. to 76 degrees by 3:00 p.m.
