PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.- Following a strong start to the 2018 spring campaign, the Jacksonville University men's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday. The Dolphins are hosting the 10th Annual Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass, competing with some of the top-ranked teams in the country.
"The Sea Best Invitational is one of the premiere events on our schedule each year," Head Coach Mike Blackburn said. "It's an attractive venue that attracts some of the top-ranked schools in the country. The course is in great shape, and we're looking forward to everyone coming to town."
The 54-hole tournament is played on the Dye's Valley Course. The 6,873-yard, par-70 course, designed by Pete Dye, Bobby Weed, and player consultant Jerry Pate, is the sister track to the world-famous THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. Opened in 1987, Dye's Valley hosted the 2014 & 2015 Web.com Tour Championship and the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open from 2010-2013. The course ranked 14th on Golfweek's 2015 ranking of "Best Courses You Can Play" in Florida.
The Sea Best Invitational begins Monday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start, with the second round immediately following the conclusion of the first. The final round starts Tuesday at 8 a.m., and the award ceremony takes place Tuesday afternoon following its conclusion. Live stats are available for all three rounds of tournament play on GolfStat.
The Dolphins welcome 14 other teams to the event, including five that are currently ranked in the top 25. Two-time defending tournament champion Florida is sending individuals to compete at this year's event. The field includes all of the top five finishers in last year's tournament, as well as 12 of the 15 teams who played the event in 2017.
Seven golfers compete for Jacksonville, featuring a five-man team, and two individual entrants. Senior Raul Pereda is currently ranked #237 in the country, and is coming off a strong fall campaign, including finishing tied for third in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in October. Pereda returns as the top finisher from JU in last year's Sea Best Invitational, placing T-18. Junior Sam Uhland led the team at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in October, finishing with a three-round total of 213 (71+73+69).
