COLUMBUS, OHIO – Finishing play just in time to beat out a three hour weather delay that resulted in a suspension in play during round 2 of the 2018 Columbus Regional, the No. 10 seeded Jacksonville University men's golf team continued their second-straight national postseason appearance, Tuesday.
Starting the day in eighth place out of 13 competing teams in one of the six regionals being held this week, the Dolphins shot +17, 301 on their second time around the par 71, 7364-yard Scarlet Golf Course at The Ohio State University. Currently in ninth, the team is 33-over-par on the week (300 + 301 = 601), and sits three strokes ahead of No. 48 Tennessee and five in front of No. 49 Louisville.
Senior No. 39 Raul Pereda continues to lead the 'Phins five-man team in his second NCAA Regional appearance. The Cordoba, Mexico native fired off three birdies to finish +2, 73 his second time around, sliding him into a five-way tie for 17th place.
Freshman Michael Sakane showed improvement in Tuesday's action shooting a +4, 75, one stroke better than his result in day 1, to move into a tie for 40th (+9).
Not far behind the reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year are sophomore Eduardo Carrete (+10), and junior Sam Uhland (+11), who sit knotted for 49th and 55th place, respectively. Freshman Aaeri Krishnan shot +15, 86 in round 2, to conclude the second round in 74th.
No. 1 seed Oklahoma State continued to cruise through the competition, hitting -6 in round 2 to finish -9, 559 thus far, three strokes ahead of No. 2 Illinois for the top spot. Further behind the two NCAA Championship qualifiers from last season are No. 4 UNLV (+7, 575), No. 6 Northwestern, (+15, 583), and No. 3 Texas Tech (+17, 585), who are all currently in positions to make the cut to move on to the final round of play, held at the end of the month in Stillwater, OK.
The Fighting Illini's Michael Feagles, who sat in first place among individuals after round 1, received company at the top of the leaderboard through Tuesday's play, as teammate No. 20 Nick Hardy, and the Cowboys' No. 4 Michael Wolff and No. 19 Zach Bauchou each shot under-par to tie the foursome up at -3, 139 for the event.
Following the conclusion of round 2 at 7:00 a.m., which will allow Michigan State, Tennessee, Yale and Cleveland State to wrap up Tuesday's rain-halted action, the final go-around will commence at 7:30 a.m., with Jacksonville teeing off from hole 1 beginning at 8:25 a.m.
