Ballyliffin, Ireland- Jacksonville Hall of Fame Class of 2014 member Russell Knox claimed his second European Tour Title with a dramatic 18th hole on Sunday at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.
Knox buried a 40-foot putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff and duplicated that feat on the playoff hole to claim the crown in come-from-behind fashion to earn his first title since 2015.
"To make a putt like that, it's a dream come true," Knox said. "It's so hard to win tournaments. The way I managed to do it, holing those two long putts, it was just my time. "I'm just lucky to win one of these massive events, so thank you very much to Rolex."
Russell Knox was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America All American Team and was a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in 2006. That same season he helped lead Jacksonville University to the Atlantic Sun Championship in record fashion while finishing runner-up to teammate Duncan Stewart in a two-hole playoff for individual medalist honors. Knox finished the 2006 season ranked 12th in the nation and was selected to be a member of the Scottish National Team for the European Youth Championships. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Jacksonville University in 2007. At the conclusion of his playing career at Jacksonville University, Knox joined the PGA TOUR as a professional golfer. Knox participated in 26 PGA TOUR events in 2014, earning eight top-25 finishes and placing 40th overall in the FedEx Cup standings.
