Thurloway Captures Second Amateur Title in Two Weeks

LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND – Just 10 days after taking home the prestigious Walton Heath Trophy, Jacksonville University men's golf's Thomas Thurloway was again crowned a champion.

The 20-year-old incoming junior transfer won the 2018 England Men's Amateur Championship across the pond on Sunday, defeating Joe Long 6-5 in the 36-hole final at the Formby Golf Club in Lancashire, England.

The tournament, which began July 31, saw Thurloway shoot even, 143 in the 36-hole stroke play round to advance to the match play stage, which featured seven rounds of head-to-head competition.

"I've been pushing and pushing and over the last few weeks I've given myself confidence and got into the right frame of mind to be winning – and winning on a big stage," Thurloway said in the official England Golf release. "It's really, really nice."

The Crawley, England native, who spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at the University of Toledo, adds his name to a trophy which has been won by PGA Tour members Tommy Fleetwood, Paul Casey and 2016 Master's Champion Danny Willett.
