Uhland Shines in Round One of Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's golf team hit the links on Sunday for the first round of the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. And showed well during the first 18, closing in a tie for seventh with a +4, 292.

Sam Uhland topped the Dolphin lineup with a -1, 71 playing out of the number four spot. He was followed closely by Eduardo Carrete and Thomas Thurloway who both fired scores +1, 73. Michael Sakane round out the scoring with a +3, 75.

Sakane did produce a team-high four birdies, as did Uhland, the difference being Sakane's seven bogeys while Uhland had just three. Carrete came away with the most consistently balanced round. The Dolphins teed off on the back nine and Carrete came away with par on each hole before beginning the front with a birdie. Back-to-back bogeys pushed him a stroke over par befor closing with six more birds.

The Dolphins will once again tee off on the back on Monday morning, with tee times starting at 9 a.m. with Davis Smith who posted a +9, 81 on Sunday. He will be followed by Sakane (9:10), Thurloway (9:20), Carrete (9:30) and Uhland (9:40) in success. Jacksonville will be paired in foursomes with individuals from Maryland, Sam Houston State and Texas State.
