"This is a game that is crucial for conference standings and an opportunity to play in the playoffs. We are both sitting at the same conference record currently, and I think we have experienced similar defeats this year with one-goal losses, and tight games against high-caliber teams. Mercer is very dangerous on the defensive end, extremely physical, and probably the toughest defense we have seen in a couple of weeks. Our group is confident, believing in themselves, and this is the second quarter for our team the rest of the season. Our focus is to find a way to win it, and I told them earlier in the week that we would have to provide something special in practice to give us evidence to be able to win the game Saturday. To this point, I think we have practiced this week harder than we ever have. We have challenged them to do things outside of practice to give their parents, family, and friends a reason why we were able to win on Saturday because of their effort this week in practice."– Head Coach John Galloway

  • Jacksonville is in its eighth season and first under new Head Coach John Galloway
  • Eric Applegate has totaled four points in three-straight games, the most recent consisted of both two goals and assists
  • Mitchell Parker has had a trio of multi-goal games, his last a hat trick at VMI
  • Ben Gleichenhaus has 12.10 saves-per-game, good for second in the conference and eighth nationally
  • Hunter Forbes' 5.20 ground balls-per-game leads the SoCon and is 23rd nationally

Series History

Last year, Applegate scored twice but the Dolphins fell 12-5. The all-time series has seen each side emerge victorious three times, and featured very close contests. In 2015, Mercer won at home in double-overtime, 9-8, and the year prior, JU took a 14-12 decision at D.B. Milne Field.

Do You Know the Enemy?

The Bears feature four players who have scored double-digit goals, led by Jake Nelson's 12. Lucas Wittenberg is the leading helper with 10 assists, and his 21 points leads the Bears. Mercer fell last week to Richmond on the road, 12-9, and is 1-3 at Five Star Stadium. The win came in conference play against High Point on Apr. 1 in a 13-12 victory.

Eric Applegate dished out four assists, Mitchell Parker had a hat trick, and Shawn Ewert totaled four points, but Jacksonville University (0-9, 0-3) dropped to Furman University (4-6, 3-0), 15-9, Saturday at D.B. Milne Field
