Eric Applegate named SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for February

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After starting the season on a hot streak leading Jacksonville University men's lacrosse in points, junior midfielder Eric Applegate was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Month for February, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon.

Applegate posted a team-high 18 points (12 goals, 6 assists) during the month as the Dolphins went 2-3, with each of their losses coming against nationally-ranked opponents.

The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. native opened the season with three goals and dished an assist to help the Dolphins to a 12-7 victory over Navy, who entered the contest receiving votes in the preseason Maverik Media Poll. He also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers against the Midshipmen.

The following two road games, Applegate led the team with a combined nine points at No. 1 Duke (Feb. 10) and No. 17 Marquette (Feb. 17). He totaled four points (3g, 1a) against the Blue Devils, and five (3g, 2a) against the Golden Eagles – including the game-tying mark.

With two goals and two assists, Applegate helped the Dolphins to a 15-8 win over Detroit Mercy (Feb. 20), and scored a goal against No. 4 Ohio State in the Moe's Lacrosse Classic (Feb. 25).

The Dolphins open their SoCon slate next Saturday, March 17 when they play host to Mercer at 1 p.m.
