MACON, Ga. - Jacksonville mens soccer's Jose Manzo received conference honors today, being named the ASUN Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Manzo, a native of Jupiter, Fla., was recognized for his contributions on offense during Jacksonville's two games last week.
The forward provided an assist on Jacksonville's second-half goal against nationally ranked Creighton on Tuesday, serving up a beautiful free kick that was eventually scored by teammate Alex Dixon. It was the redshirt sophomore's third assist of the season.
In Saturday night's victory over NJIT Manzo made more noise by scoring the Dolphins' third goal of the night, which would later prove to be the game-winner. It was his first collegiate goal.
Manzo has seen more opportunities with set pieces over recent weeks, and recorded two assists in the double-overtime win over Lipscomb thanks to his precision corner kicks. In total, Manzo now has five points this season on three assists and one goal.
Jacksonville (2-8, 2-0 ASUN) returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 2 for a non-conference tilt with UCF (6-2-1, 1-1 AAC).
