GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Facing competition from four schools in the ASUN Conference and five other Division I teams, Jacksonville University's men's cross country team placed seventh at the 2016 UF Mountain Dew Invitational early Saturday morning.
"It was good to see our veteran men have solid races. It was also a good first 8K experience for our newcomers," stated Head Coach Ronald Grigg, Jr.
The Dolphin men showed heart and grit in the first 8K of the 2016 season, as senior Jeremy McDermet crossed the line first for JU in 27:48.36. The underclassmen helped next, as sophomore Brett Gerhardt (28:18.45) and freshman Alex Turnock (28:41.20) were the next two to finish, both under 29 minutes.
Freshman Nick Ohlwein and senior Kyle Crews Jr. followed behind in 30:31.34 and 31:33.15, respectively, and junior Jordon Garman, freshman Everardo Tompkins, and junior Drew Overmyer closed out the pod of Dolphins.
JU returns to action Friday, October 7 when it heads to Tallahassee, Fla. for the FSU Invitational for the final race before the conference championships.
