Cross Country Set for ASUN Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's and women's cross country teams hits the trail Saturday, Oct. 28 for the 2017 ASUN Conference Championships at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville, Ga.  Hosted by Kennesaw State, the ASUN Championships open with the men's 8,000-meter race at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5,000-meter race at 9:30 a.m.

Both Dolphin teams previously faced fellow ASUN competition North Florida and Stetson at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational, while the women's side also saw Florida Gulf Coast.

"We've look forward to following our process to its conclusion," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Ron Grigg. "The plan is to have the best race of the season. When that happens, everyone can be happy with the result."

Last Time Out – at USF Invitational

The women placed four runners in the top 15 at the USF Invitational two weeks ago, as junior Nora McUmber led JU in the 5K race with a season-best time of 18:28.9 to finish fourth overall. Redshirt seniors Caitlin Marino and Michelle Howell placed eighth and 12th, respectively, and freshman Nicolette Worrell crossed the line 14th.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Turnock led the Dolphins in the 8K race in a season-best time of 27:27.2 for 18th place overall. Junior Brett Gerhardt followed next in 27:58.9 for 27th.

There was no team scoring for the meet.

ASUN Runner of the Week

Jana Reinert earned ASUN Runner of the Week honors after she placed third overall at the FSU Invitational Oct. 6. The freshman's 5K time of 17:58.0 ranks 11th all-time in JU program history. It is the Waldron, Germany native's first career ASUN weekly accolade.

Next Time Out

Qualifying Dolphins will return to the trail Friday, Nov. 10 at the NCAA South Region Championship in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
