JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University Softball defeated Mercer 8-0 in five innings Wednesday. It was the Dolphins' (12-9) third eight-run-rule win in six days.
Alyssa Bilodeau earned the win, striking out three and holding the Bears (15-6) to just one hit. Mercer's Jill McElderly took the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits and three walks in two and a third innings.
Allie McCourt led off JU's half of the first inning with a walk, Baker recorded her first of three singles, and Ragan's three-run shot gave the Dolphins an early 3-0 lead.
Back at the top of the order in the third, McCourt opened the inning with a bunt single, stole second, and advanced to third on another Baker single. After Ragan walked, Jordan Daniels was hit by a pitch to push McCourt across. Hannah Roberts took a bases-loaded walk as well, sending home Baker. With Carolyn O'Neal in to run for Roberts, Kristen Griffith cleared the bases with a double to put JU up 8-0.
Bilodeaux was working a no-hitter through four and a third before Emma Andrew came through with a fifth-inning single. JU ended the game on a 6-4 double-play.
Next up for the Dolphins is a weekend trip to College Park, Maryland, for the Maryland Invitational. Jacksonville opens Friday with Yale at 12:30 p.m. and plays the host Terrapins at 5:30 p.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium.
